Trump will attend the NATO summit in Turkey — Rubio
U.S. President Donald Trump will personally attend the NATO summit, which will take place in Turkey on July 7–8. This was announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a speech before the House Foreign Affairs Committee. According to him, Washington intends to raise the issue of reforming the Alliance and increasing the defense spending of allied countries.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the Trump administration has no intention of withdrawing from NATO but will not back down from its demand for significant reforms.
Rubio told lawmakers on Wednesday that the U.S. president plans to attend the annual NATO leaders’ summit in Turkey next month, where he will present the U.S. case for change and again call on allies to increase their defense spending. The summit will take place in Ankara on July 7–8.
“The president himself will attend the next NATO summit, a meeting of heads of state, where all these points will be clearly laid out. We are still in NATO, but NATO needs significant changes, and the president has made that clear,” Rubio said.
