Trump intervened in the Pentagon's decision regarding troops in Poland

According to media reports, Donald Trump reacted sharply to the Pentagon’s decision to cancel the deployment of U.S. troops to Poland and even demanded an explanation during a conversation with the defense secretary. Subsequently, the U.S. announced a new plan for the deployment of forces, this time in a different format and with a larger contingent, The Washington Post reports.

An internal dispute has erupted in the U.S. over the decision regarding the military presence in Poland, where, according to Western media, President Donald Trump questioned the Pentagon’s actions following the cancellation of the planned deployment of U.S. military units. This refers to an incident in which the military’s decision was reviewed at the political level, and the issue itself immediately became a topic of discussion between the White House and defense leadership.

Last week, the U.S. unexpectedly canceled the rotation of about 4,000 troops to Poland, prompting a reaction from the presidential administration. Shortly thereafter, Trump publicly announced his intention to send more troops to Poland—approximately 5,000 personnel—effectively reversing the previous decision.

According to U.S. officials, during a phone call, the U.S. president asked Defense Secretary Pete Hagset directly why the troop deployment had been canceled. In the same conversation, sources claim, Trump emphasized that the United States should not worsen relations with Poland, which he called an important ally with close ties to the White House.

It is also noted that the decision to cancel the rotation drew criticism from both Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. Congress, who questioned the logic of such a move given the security situation in Europe. The article also states that some officials were surprised by the Pentagon’s decision, given the broader context of the U.S. military presence on the continent.

At the same time, the U.S. Department of Defense assured that coordination between the president and the Pentagon chief continues, and all decisions regarding troop redeployment are made through constant collaboration. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell stated that there is regular contact between the country’s leadership regarding military issues in Europe.
