Trump says US may strike Pickaxe Mountain in Iran

US President Donald Trump said that the American military may soon strike Pickaxe Mountain in Iran, located near the uranium enrichment facility in Natanz. He told reporters in the Oval Office, The National reports.

Trump did not explain the reasons for a possible strike. He also said that the United States knows about the movement of people throughout Iran and will deliver a powerful strike if the situation worsens.

Underground complex near Natanz

Pickaxe Mountain, known in Farsi as Kuh-e Kolang, is located near the uranium enrichment plant in Natanz, in central Iran. It is a fortified underground complex, in the area of which, according to available information, there are deeply buried tunnel complexes.

The facility is considered one of Iran's newest underground sites connected to the nuclear program. Unlike older Iranian structures, it was likely designed with concealment and protection in mind.

Satellite imagery data

Analysis of satellite images, including by the Institute for Science and International Security, indicates that construction on Pickaxe Mountain began around 2020. Iran describes the complex as a centrifuge assembly plant.

UN inspectors have not gained access to the facility for a full inspection.
