More than 5,600 people missing after sudden flood in Nepal
In the Rasuwa district in northern Nepal, a school has been converted into a temporary shelter for about 200 people who lost their homes as a result of a major sudden flood. The torrent swept away entire villages, and one of them was largely buried under a layer of mud.
Assistance for those affected
Rasuwa district is located about 30 kilometers from Nepal’s border with China. Humanitarian workers delivering essential supplies there have to travel along a winding dirt road for up to nine hours, France 24 reports.
Madhav Neupane, an employee of Human Development and Community Services, said that rice, lentils and oil are being delivered to those affected. Solar power banks were also added to the cargo due to the lack of electricity, while tents were provided for people without housing.

The search for missing people continues
People staying in the school building are awaiting news about their relatives. Ranjina Tamang, one of those affected, said that she had lost 11 members of her family: some of them are missing, while others may have died, she said.
Search operations are also continuing in hydroelectric power plant tunnels clogged with mud. On Saturday, rescuers pulled a Chinese citizen out alive from one tunnel, while on Friday they rescued two Nepali workers from another. More than 5,600 people are still considered missing, and living conditions in overcrowded temporary camps remain difficult.
