Trump says Democrats ‘invented’ term about affordability
US President Donald Trump said that Democrats allegedly invented the term affordability, which in a political context refers to the affordability of goods and services and the cost of living, in order to criticize him. Vice President J.D. Vance, in a text message from the Republican National Committee urging people to take part in a survey, stated: groceries cost what they cost. These statements were made less than 10 weeks before the US midterm congressional elections.
As CNBC Top News reports, in the latest CNBC All America Economic Survey, the cost of food and groceries became the top concern for voters. Democrats held a seven-percentage-point advantage on the question of whom respondents trusted more to address this problem.
Inflation and consumer spending
The personal consumption expenditures price index, released by the US Department of Commerce, rose by 0.2% in July compared with June. The annual inflation rate was 3.7%. At the same time, inflation-adjusted consumer spending did not change compared with the previous month, while in June it increased by 0.4%.
In an interview with radio host Glenn Beck, Trump said he inherited high prices from the administration of former President Joe Biden. He also claimed that Democrats began using the concept of affordability from the first day of his presidency.

Republican nomination in South Carolina
Darlene Graham, who won the Republican nomination for a full six-year Senate term from South Carolina, criticized a government universal healthcare system in her victory speech. She said that her parents worked even when they were ill, and that her mother died when she was 11 and her father died a little more than a year later.
Her Democratic opponent, Annie Andrews, a doctor by profession, responded in a social media post that no family should suffer because of a lack of medical care.
