Trump stated that he is personally keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed to Iranian exports until a comprehensive peace agreement is reached.
During a briefing in the Oval Office, the American leader emphasized that the United States is fully in control of the situation in the region and has no intention of easing economic pressure on Tehran.
According to the U.S. president, the Iranian side has repeatedly approached the U.S. with proposals to restore free navigation through the strategic strait.
However, Trump rejected these requests, explaining the decision by the need to deprive the Iranian regime of critically important financial revenues that fuel military operations.
“If we open the strait, it will mean they’ll be making $500 million a day. I don’t want them to make $500 million a day until they resolve this issue,” the American leader stated.
He emphasized that financially draining the enemy is a key element of Washington’s current strategy.
The U.S. president took full responsibility for blocking the waterway through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supplies passes.
“We are in complete control of the situation. We control the entire strait. I am the one who kept it closed,” Trump added, demonstrating his determination to continue the policy of maximum pressure.
The blockade of Iranian ports, ongoing as part of Operation Economic Fury, has already led to a significant drop in Tehran’s revenues.
Trump noted that the Iranian economy is on the verge of collapse, and Iran’s security forces and army are facing delays in salary payments due to an acute cash shortage.
Trump stated that there is no timeline for ending the war with Iran
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran has repeatedly violated the ceasefire since it was established between Washington and Tehran. According to Trump, there have been numerous incidents that cast doubt on Iran’s compliance with the ceasefire agreements.
Trumpexpressed his willingness to meet personally with Iran’s new leadership.
US President Donald Trump also announced progress in negotiations with Iran, under which Washington would allegedly receive all of Tehran’s enriched uranium without any financial payments.
Additionally, Israel agreed to a 10-day ceasefire with Lebanon and announced the start of a move toward a diplomatic settlement; however, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the war against Hezbollah is not yet over and military operations will continue.
