Trump says he will ask Europe to reimburse funds for aid to Ukraine
US President Donald Trump said he would ask European countries to reimburse the United States for military aid and ammunition previously provided to Ukraine in Russia’s war against Ukraine. Russia is the aggressor state.
Trump wrote about this on social media, Defense News reports. According to the US president, Ukraine and NATO were provided with “hundreds of billions of dollars” free of charge, which Europe could pay for if asked. He also blamed the administration of his predecessor, Joe Biden, for the previous approach.
Arms sales to allies
In the same post, Trump criticized reports of a significant depletion of US ammunition stockpiles because of the separate war in Iran. He said that the United States is increasing production and stockpiling ammunition.

Trump also wrote that the United States is keeping ammunition for its own needs rather than selling it to other countries, but sales to allies will soon resume. Last year, the United States and NATO developed the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List initiative, under which European countries pay for supplies of US weapons to Ukraine.
Missile stockpiles and energy prices
Reuters reported last month that the US Army used a significant portion of its stockpile of long-range precision missiles during the war in Iran. This raised concerns about the readiness of the US military for future conflicts.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent partly linked rising global oil and gas prices to the wars in Ukraine and Iran. In an interview with Fox News, he said that, in his view, Ukraine’s strikes on Russian energy assets and petroleum products are creating additional price pressure globally.
