In Karachi, Pakistan, the authorities of Sindh province have decided to expand the Peoples Bus Service (PBS) to other cities. The decision was made at a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department, Dawn reports.

Route to Larkana

Meeting participants were told that PBS would soon be launched on the Qambar-Shahdadkot—Larkana route. The buses have already arrived in Larkana.

Officials are also finalizing arrangements related to the arrival and operation of double-decker buses. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon instructed that all preparatory measures for launching bus services on the new routes be completed on time.

According to Memon, the expansion of PBS is intended to provide people with better transport services.

Electric taxis and BRT

The meeting also discussed the operational model for an electric taxi service and the measures needed to launch it. The Pink Scooties programme was considered separately; Memon described it as a step toward empowering women and facilitating their access to important activities.

The minister called for accelerating work on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects and ensuring close coordination between the relevant institutions to avoid unjustified delays. According to him, the expansion of PBS, the development of electric transport and major BRT projects are components of the Sindh government's transport policy aimed at developing a modern, safe and environmentally friendly public transport system.
