Trump was angered by his allies' refusal to help with Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed deep disappointment over the refusal of most NATO allies to join the military operation in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on Truth Social, he called the North Atlantic Alliance a “one-sided” structure, emphasizing that the U.S. spends hundreds of billions of dollars to defend countries that are unwilling to provide reciprocal support. Despite previous calls for Britain, France, Japan, and South Korea to send their ships, Trump now claims that the United States “never needed” and does not want help from others.

“Given that we have achieved such military success, we no longer ‘need’ or want help from NATO countries—WE NEVER NEEDED IT! The same applies to Japan, Australia, or South Korea. In fact, speaking as the President of the United States of America, undoubtedly the most powerful country in the world, WE DO NOT NEED HELP FROM ANYONE!” the White House chief wrote.

The American leader justified this position by citing massive military successes, declaring the complete destruction of Iran’s navy, air force, and air defense systems. According to Trump, since Tehran’s military capabilities have been “decapitated,” the world’s most powerful country is capable of ensuring the safety of shipping on its own. Trump emphasizes that the U.S. will continue to strike the Iranian coast and destroy any hostile vessels to keep the strait “open and free.”

Despite this rhetoric, the situation in the strait remains tense: tanker traffic has dropped to nearly zero due to the threat of mines and attacks by mobile missile systems. Many allies, including EU and Asian countries, are exercising caution, preferring diplomatic avenues to resolve the energy crisis. Trump, for his part, warned that such a stance by partners could have “very bad consequences for the future of NATO,” effectively calling into question the Alliance’s traditional commitments amid global instability.

Prior to this, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten stated that the country does not plan to join the international security mission in the Strait of Hormuz in the near future.

The Finnish Navy officially announced that it is unable to deploy its combat units to the Strait of Hormuz to participate in the international mission.
