In the state of Queensland in northeastern Australia, 22-year-old Morrigan Burns has been charged with fivein connection with a traffic accident in Stratford, a suburb of Cairns, in which a 12-year-old boy was killed in June. The boy was a passenger in a car that, according to police, had been stolen prior to the accident.

According to ABC News Australia, Burns is charged, among other things, with three counts of dangerous driving causing death or grievous bodily harm. Other charges relate to alleged breaking and entering with intent to steal a vehicle, driving with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit, and driving while his license was suspended. Another charge relates to an alleged violation of the terms of his bail.

According to police, on June 21, Burns broke into a house on Pomona Avenue and stole a Toyota Fortuna, after which he drove to Stratford. Law enforcement was called to the scene after 4:00 a.m. following a report that the car had veered off an embankment. A 12-year-old boy died at the scene after being thrown from the vehicle.

Burns, a 19-year-old woman from Yarrabie, and 20-year-old Oscar Samuel Lee Savage were transported to the hospital in Cairns. Burns became the third and last of the three survivors in the car to be charged in connection with the accident. Savage and the woman have also been charged with alleged car theft and other driving offenses. All three cases are being heard in the Cairns Magistrates Court.
