Three companies express interest in buying Lukoil’s sanctioned Romanian assets
Romanian Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan announced on Tuesday that three companies have expressed interest in acquiring Lukoil’s Romanian assets, which are subject to US sanctions, Digi24 reports.
The assets include an oil refinery and a network of petrol stations.
Ivan did not reveal the names of the potential buyers but confirmed interest from companies based in the US, Romania, and other countries, including EU member states. “We have been informed about this, we are in contact with them, and this agreement between two private companies must be signed. It is obviously in our interest that this agreement be concluded as soon as possible,” he added.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with other relevant ministries, is preparing a regulatory framework to supervise the relevant assets and economic activities.
Analysts note that Lukoil risks losing €14 billion following the cancellation of its agreement with Swiss trader Gunvor, leaving the company nearly paralyzed in foreign markets.
