Three Ukrainians in Germany were caught with corn stolen from a field

Three Ukrainians were detained in Germany on suspicion of stealing 300 kg of corn from a field. They were caught as they tried to flee the field.

This was reported in a statement by the local police.

A witness spotted the three individuals picking ears of corn in the field. After the trio loaded their gray Ford Focus with 300 kilograms of feed corn, the car drove off along a local dirt road. However, the witness memorized the car’s license plate number and reported it to the police.

A trail of corn leaves led law enforcement officers to the parked Ford Focus. Two women were sitting in the car. Upon seeing the police, they got out of the car and tried to flee.

They didn’t get very far. After just a few meters, the officers caught up with both women. The suspects then provided false information about their identities. However, the officers noticed a bag that one of the women was trying to hide. Inside, they found identification documents. The two women were subsequently identified as 42- and 50-year-old residents of Essen with Ukrainian citizenship. The third suspect, who remains at large, is a 55-year-old man from Essen with Ukrainian citizenship.

His car was searched. The entire trunk and the space on the folded-down back seat were filled with corn cobs.

Eventually, a farmer arrived at the scene with a tractor and a scale. The corn cobs were loaded into the tractor’s bucket and weighed. Their total weight was up to 300 kilograms.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian consul visited Dmytro Karchuk, director of the CEO Club Ukraine business community, in Poland; Karchuk had been detained in Przemyśl at the request of German law enforcement authorities. Karchuk stated that he does not admit to any involvement in the offense he is accused of and plans to challenge the actions of the German investigators through his attorneys.
