Tropical Storm Dujuan may approach Tokyo — The Japan Times
In Japan, Tropical Storm Dujuan may approach the eastern part of the country during the Silver Week holiday period. It could bring heavy rain, gusty winds and high waves to the Tokyo area after passing near the Ogasawara and Izu archipelagos, The Japan Times reports.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, as of 3 p.m. Friday, the storm was located about 170 kilometers south-southeast of Chichi-jima Island in the Ogasawara archipelago. It was moving west-northwest at a speed of 35 km/h. The system’s central pressure was 975 hectopascals, sustained winds near its center reached 108 km/h, and gusts were up to 162 km/h.
Storm track forecast
Dujuan is expected to pass near Ogasawara from Friday to Saturday, then turn north and approach the Izu Islands on Sunday. The storm may later shift north-northeast and approach the Pacific coast of eastern Japan from Sunday to Monday.

Up to 250 mm of precipitation may fall in Ogasawara during the 24 hours ending at noon Saturday. Over the following 24 hours, up to 200 mm of precipitation is forecast for the Izu Islands and up to 150 mm in some parts of the Kanto region. A further 200 mm of rain may fall in Kanto and Izu during the 24 hours ending at noon Monday.
Winds, waves and risks
In Ogasawara, sustained winds of up to 90 km/h with gusts of up to 126 km/h are forecast on Friday and Saturday. Near the Izu Islands on Sunday, wind speeds may reach 101 km/h, with gusts up to 144 km/h.
Wave heights near Ogasawara on Friday and Saturday, as well as near Izu on Sunday, may reach seven meters. Along the Kanto coast on Sunday, waves of up to six meters with ocean swell are expected. The meteorological agency warned of an increased risk of landslides, flooding in low-lying areas and rising river levels. Heavy rain is also possible along the Pacific coast from the Tokai region to northeastern Japan. By Tuesday, the storm is forecast to accelerate and move northeastward over the Pacific Ocean.
