IDF says it destroyed Hamas weapons depots in Gaza Strip

In Israel, the Israel Defense Forces said it had destroyed three weapons depots belonging to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip, as well as a launch position from which rockets had been fired toward Israel during the war. As The Jerusalem Post reports, the IDF and Israel's Shin Bet security service struck these targets on Tuesday, September 8.

Destruction of weapons depots

According to the Israeli military, the facilities stored dozens of various weapons, including rockets, Kalashnikov assault rifles and other military equipment.

The military also said that the population had been warned before the strikes in order to reduce risks to civilians.

Reports on Hamas actions

N12 television channel, citing IDF sources, reported that Hamas is trying to regain access to its weapons and restore military control over the Gaza Strip, despite existing ceasefire and disarmament agreements. A senior security source said that Hamas representatives are reaching weapons caches and using them for surveillance and to establish control over territory.

A week earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a visit to an IDF position near the Yellow Line, said that Israel controls 60% of the Gaza Strip and will continue efforts to disarm Hamas.
