Gasoline prices in the US surpass Biden-era levels for the first time under Trump
For the first time since the start of President Trump’s second term, drivers in the United States are paying slightly more at some petrol stations than they did during the same period last year.
The average cost of gasoline has reached $3.055 per gallon, compared to $3.056 a year ago.
Previously, Trump and his economic team frequently boasted that gasoline was significantly cheaper than during Biden’s administration. For most of 2025 this was indeed the case, but now the difference has effectively disappeared.
Gasoline prices remain an important indicator for Americans when assessing the cost of living. Although they are still far below the historic peak of 2022, the current trend weakens one of Trump’s key arguments about fuel affordability.
Oil prices fell on Tuesday amid growing concerns that global supply will exceed demand next year. This occurred despite risks related to potential disruptions in Russian supplies — still constrained by sanctions — and against the backdrop of fruitless negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
