Tusk addressed his allies following the U.S. decision
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on partners to strengthen cooperation between Europe and the United States in order to prevent the transatlantic community from weakening.
He wrote this on X following the U.S. announcement of the withdrawal of 5,000 troops from Germany.
“The greatest threat to the transatlantic community comes not from external enemies, but from the ongoing process of our alliance’s disintegration. We must all do whatever is necessary to stop this destructive trend,” the Polish prime minister wrote.
The Pentagon intends to withdraw about 5,000 American troops from Germany. According to Pentagon officials, this move is linked to Donald Trump’s dissatisfaction with the level of assistance European allies provided to the U.S. in the war against Iran.
NATO is consulting with the United States to seek clarification on Washington’s decision to withdraw part of the American military contingent from German territory.
As a reminder, the Pentagon is withdrawing part of the U.S. troops from Germany.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington may reduce its military presence not only in Germany but also in other European countries, including Italy and Spain.
