Zelenskyy thanked the U.S. Congress for its support of sanctions against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the U.S. Congress for supporting Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill, which aims to increase sanctions pressure on Russia. According to the head of state, this bill could serve as an additional tool to compel Moscow to move toward a diplomatic resolution of the war.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine is closely monitoring the progress of the bill and is grateful to American politicians who support increasing pressure on Russia.

On Friday, July 17, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to the U.S. Congress for supporting Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill on new sanctions against Russia. According to the Ukrainian leader, the bill is intended to strengthen the ability to influence the Kremlin through economic and political pressure. “Senator Lindsey Graham worked very hard to draft a strong bill, and we discussed this with him during our meetings. I remember how important this was to him, and it can truly expand the existing tools for compelling Russia to engage in diplomacy and peace,” Zelenskyy said.

The president also thanked all Americans who are working on the bill and supporting efforts to strengthen sanctions against Russia in response to its full-scale aggression against Ukraine. Zelenskyy separately emphasized the role of U.S. President Donald Trump in potentially increasing diplomatic pressure on Moscow. “President Trump is exactly the person whose influence can bring peace closer,” the head of state noted.

Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill calls for expanding sanctions against Russia and creating additional levers of influence over the aggressor country. Kyiv believes that increasing pressure could help force the Kremlin to abandon the war and move toward negotiations. He announced this on social media.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced five decisions intended to help strengthen relations between Ukraine and Poland. These include opening the archives on the Volhynia tragedy, expanding exhumation efforts, taking new diplomatic steps, and strengthening the work of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.
