It has become clear why Witkoff and Kushner postponed their visit to Ukraine

On August 24, it was reported that U.S. President’s Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had postponed their planned trip to Ukraine. According to media reports, the reason was an intensification of Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv.

On the evening of August 23, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty journalist Alex Raufoglu reported that Witkoff and Kushner’s long-awaited visit to Ukraine had been slightly postponed but not canceled. According to the journalist’s sources, the reason was the intensification of missile and drone strikes on Kyiv last week.

Meanwhile, Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated the day before that Witkof and Kushner would not travel to either Kyiv or Moscow if they did not see a possibility of achieving results.

According to him, “the ball is largely in Russia’s court” at the moment, since it is Moscow that is not demonstrating a willingness to seek pragmatic solutions to end the war. “The problem is not in Ukraine; the problem is in Russia,” Stubb emphasized.

As a reminder, the prime ministers of the United Kingdom and Luxembourg, the president of Moldova, and the leader of Estonia have arrived in Kyiv.

On August 24, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham arrived in Kyiv for his first foreign visit in office. London will allow the release of classified information regarding the British components of SCALP missiles.

While in Kyiv, Finnish President Alexander Stubb announced the preparation of two aid packages for Ukraine—to strengthen air defense and support the energy sector ahead of winter.
