Russian actress Lyudmila Chursina, who rose to fame for her role as Marina Kisehach in the comedy series *Interns*, has died at the age of 84.

According to reports, the Soviet film star passed away after a long illness. She was also known in the public sphere for her statements supporting the Kremlin’s policies and her remarks regarding Ukraine.

Currently, propagandists are citing two possible causes of the actress’s death: cancer or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease—an incurable condition characterized by persistent airflow limitation that makes breathing difficult. She had been battling the latter condition for a long time.

In the last years of her life, Lyudmila Chursina often complained of health problems. She considered the rare days when she woke up feeling well and could walk normally to be “a blessing.” According to Russian media reports, the actress spent a week in the cardiac intensive care unit last year. At that time, she was diagnosed with hypertension, angina, and atherosclerosis.

What is known about the actress

Lyudmila Chursina was born on July 20, 1941, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. She received her acting education in Moscow, after which she began performing in Russian theaters and appearing in films.

Since 2014, Chursina has openly demonstrated an anti-Ukrainian stance. She signed a statement by Russian cultural figures in support of dictator Vladimir Putin’s policies regarding Ukraine and Crimea; moreover, she was one of the first to tour the temporarily occupied peninsula. The actress performed as part of the Russian Army Theater. Due to these activities, Lyudmila Chursina was added to the database of criminals maintained by the Ukrainian center “Myrotvorets.”

The artist did not change her pro-Putin stance even after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. She publicly declared her desire to travel to the front lines to support the occupiers with her art, and spouted propaganda nonsense about “Russia’s invincibility.”

"If I were younger and had more strength, I would come to you to read the wonderful poetry of Akhmatova, Tsvetaeva, and Pasternak, but, unfortunately, that will no longer happen. So I want to wish you that at least the New Year’s holidays will be peaceful, that our enemies—who feed the enemy with filth, shells, and money—will somehow come to their senses. These countries have “gone mad,” completely failing to understand that Russia cannot be defeated, the actress said.
