Thousands of people took to the streets in Berlin to protest after the AfD's election victory
On Monday evening, thousands of people gathered near the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to protest against the far-right party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD). The rally took place following the party’s decisive victory in the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt.
According to police estimates, about 5,000 people participated in the rally, and they reported that the demonstration took place without incident. The organizers estimated the number of participants at approximately 14,000.
The rally was organized at the last minute by the Campact campaign and the “Fridays for Future” climate movement.
Among the participants were the well-known German climate activist Luisa Neubauer and leading candidates from the Green Party and The Left for the Berlin state parliament elections, which will take place on September 20.
Protesters carried banners with slogans such as “Fascism is not an alternative” and “Stop the Nazis from the AfD! End racism and social cuts.” The crowd also chanted, “All together against fascism!”
On Monday evening, hundreds of people also gathered in nearby Potsdam to protest against the "AdN."
