A Ukrainian man was detained in Poland with ammunition near a defense exhibition

A Ukrainian citizen was detained in Kielce, Poland, while attempting to enter the International Defense Industry Exhibition with illegally acquired ammunition. The man was detained right during the event.

On September 8, shortly after 11:00 a.m., exhibition security detained a 44-year-old man during a security check at one of the event’s entrances. They suspected he might be carrying dangerous items.

The man attempted to enter the event grounds several dozen minutes before the exhibition’s official opening, which was attended, among others, by Defense Minister Vladislav Kosiniak-Kamysh.

Police were called to the scene and checked the Ukrainian man’s documents. A magazine containing a set of live rounds was found on him.

It turned out that the detainee had entered Poland the day before. He was the driver for two Ukrainian businessmen whose company is participating in the exhibition. Law enforcement officers searched the car in which they had arrived. They found neither weapons nor any other dangerous items inside.

The Ukrainian citizen was taken to a police holding cell and is currently refusing to provide a statement. Therefore, it is unknown why he intended to bring a loaded magazine for a pistol to the event. He is expected to face charges of illegal possession of ammunition. The Border Guard Service has been notified of the case. Most likely, a decision will be made to deport the Ukrainian national.
