A man was arrested in Birmingham following an incident at the European Athletics Championships
In Birmingham, police arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of fraud following an incident that disrupted transportation services during the European Athletics Championships. The suspect remains in custody, according to West Midlands Police.
According to law enforcement officials, concerns arose after the man was found to be in possession of invalid accreditation. As a precaution, police implemented security measures and temporarily suspended the transport of championship staff and athletes. This delayed the spectators’ departure from the stadium.
British media reported that following the incident involving armed police officers on Saturday evening, several athletes—including British track and field athlete Amy Hunt—as well as thousands of spectators waited for over an hour to leave Alexander Stadium.

Police stated that there was no immediate threat to the public. Organizers reported that transportation services resumed early Sunday, emphasizing that the safety and well-being of spectators, athletes, and staff are their top priority.
During Saturday’s evening session, Alexander Stadium was nearly filled to its capacity of 23,000 spectators. The program concluded with victories for Great Britain in the men’s and women’s 4x100-meter relays. Following the final event, the organizers canceled six scheduled medal ceremonies.
