Hundreds of violations were reported during the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria — BTA

As of Sunday evening, April 19, the Bulgarian Ministry of the Interior had already received 328 official reports of possible fraud during the National Assembly elections.

This was reported by the Bulgarian news agency BTA.

The country’s law enforcement agencies promptly launched 26 investigations into the reported violations of election law.

These elections, the seventh snap election in recent years, have been marred by numerous attempts at manipulation.

The focus has been on an incident in the village of Septemvriytsi, where a member of the election commission personally cast 10 votes on behalf of other citizens, for which he was detained for 24 hours.

An equally high-profile incident occurred in the village of Velikdenche in the Kyрджала region.

There, law enforcement officers detained the daughter of the local mayor and her friend, who were attempting to vote on behalf of other individuals, which also led to the opening of a pre-trial investigation.

Bulgarian police are actively countering attempts at direct bribery of the electorate.

On the eve of and on the day of the vote, law enforcement officials seized 40,000 euros in cash intended for the illegal bribery of voters.

In total, several individuals involved in organizing fraud schemes have already been detained across the country. The level of violations remains high, but the Ministry of Internal Affairs assures that every case will be thoroughly investigated and referred to court.
