In Britain, an investigation into a suspected arson attempt on Farage's home has been reopened
British counterterrorism units have reopened the investigation into an incident in April 2025, when a burning device was reportedly slipped through the mail slot of the home of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. The case is being reviewed as part of the investigation into the murder of former Member of Parliament Anne Widdecombe, according to The Guardian.
During the initial investigation, police did not identify any suspects and closed the case until new leads emerged. After the investigation was reopened, the London Counter-Terrorism Police reported that they had identified a lead that could be relevant to the case but had not been previously identified or followed up on.
The UK’s Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched its own investigation into an officer with the London Counter-Terrorism Police. The investigation concerns allegations that the officer failed to identify and follow up on a line of inquiry in the case of an attempted break-in reported in April 2025. On Friday, the London Counter-Terrorism Police submitted a mandatory report to the IOPC regarding the officer’s conduct.

Anne Widdecombe, who was 78, was found dead on July 9 at her home in Haytor, Dartmoor, in Devon. She had suffered severe injuries. Last month, 28-year-old Joshua Carey of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was charged with her murder. He was also detained on suspicion of committing, preparing, or inciting terrorist acts, but no charges were filed in connection with that incident.
For 23 years, Weddecomb served as a Conservative Party member of the House of Commons. She later represented Southwest England in the European Parliament for the Brexit Party, and in 2023 she joined Reform UK.
