The U.K. has concluded its investigation into the death of a paratrooper in Ukraine

British investigators have concluded their investigation into the death of paratrooper George Guli in Ukraine. They determined that the soldier died as a result of an explosion and that the circumstances of his death were not suspicious.

“The British paratrooper died as a result of an explosion while assisting Ukrainian forces in the war against Russia,” the statement said.

The investigation established that on December 6, 2025, Guli “sustained multiple injuries as a result of an explosion.”

According to the BBC, 28-year-old Guli died from his injuries at a hospital in Kyiv three days later. He became the first British servicemember to die in Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

Oxfordshire Chief Coroner Darren Salter stated that he had received “limited evidence” regarding the circumstances and cause of the explosion, but that Guli’s death “raises no suspicion.”

The location of the explosion has also not been determined. It is known only that it occurred far from the front lines.

The coroner’s report notes that prior to his death, Guli was transferred to a hospital in Kyiv from another medical facility in Ukraine.

In a December statement, the British Ministry of Defense described Guli as “an exceptional soldier and a capable junior commander with extensive combat experience.”

The ministry noted that his death was the result of a “tragic accident” that occurred while he was “observing Ukrainian military personnel testing new defensive capabilities.”

The Ministry of Defense did not provide any comments in response to additional questions regarding the circumstances of the incident.

The company commander of the Parachute Regiment unit in which Guli served described the 28-year-old soldier as “a soldier sent from God” who “had a rare gift: deep kindness and genuine concern for everyone.”

Guli, a native of Wallingford, Oxfordshire, joined the regiment in June 2016 after completing his training at the Infantry Training Center in Catterick, North Yorkshire.

The British government has never disclosed the number of its military personnel in Ukraine, but has previously acknowledged the presence of a small contingent providing support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and ensuring the safety of diplomatic personnel.

This was reported by the BBC.
