Roads leading to the airport in Brussels were closed due to a gas leak

Roads leading to the airport in Brussels were closed due to a gas leak

On the morning of May 12, 2026, in the Belgian capital, law enforcement officials blocked all road access to the country’s main airport.

The reason for the emergency measures was a large-scale gas leak that posed a threat to the safety of passengers and airport staff.

The airport administration officially confirmed the incident via social media platform X.

Currently, traffic for private cars, taxis, and public transportation heading toward the terminals has been completely halted due to the high risk of fire or explosion.

Due to the emergency, the only available way to reach the airport is by train.

Trains continue to run on schedule, as the tracks are located outside the immediate gas contamination zone, allowing for limited passenger traffic.

Police and emergency services are working to contain the leak, but the exact time for the resumption of road traffic is currently unknown.

Passengers are advised to plan their routes in advance and use only rail service to ensure they arrive in time for their scheduled flights.

Gas service specialists are measuring the concentration of the hazardous substance in the air near the highways.

Restrictions will remain in place until the malfunction is fully resolved and safety is confirmed for drivers, which has already caused significant traffic jams on the approaches to Brussels.
