Brussels Compared Montenegro's EU Accession to a Cup of Coffee – Politico
Montenegro’s accession to the European Union during the next budget cycle, from 2028 to 2034, will cost 3 billion euros, which amounts to less than one euro per EU taxpayer.
This was announced by the European Commission, which published a corresponding financial proposal regarding the Balkan country’s accession to the bloc.
The financial package must now be approved by all EU member states before official negotiations begin. According to estimates by the EU’s executive body, the country, with a population of 600,000, is expected to join the bloc by 2028 and contribute 500 million euros to the general budget, while receiving over 1 billion euros in regional payments, 277 million euros in agricultural subsidies, and 592 million euros from migration funds. Overall, the net cost of accession for all Balkan countries currently seeking to join the EU is estimated at 8 billion euros over the next seven years.
Politico reports this.
