Zhejiang sets green methanol bunkering record — ECNS
On August 23, the container ship COSCO SHIPPING LIBRA received about 5,500 metric tons of green methanol in the Meishan port area of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in China’s Zhejiang Province. The operation set a new provincial record for ship-to-ship green methanol bunkering, ECNS reports.
Specialized bunkering vessel
The fuel was supplied by the bunkering vessel Chimbusco Green Energy 85. In July, it began commercial operations as the first specialized methanol bunkering vessel at Ningbo-Zhoushan Port. The vessel provides ship-to-ship fuel supply services in the port area.
COSCO SHIPPING LIBRA is a large container ship with a methanol dual-fuel engine. The bunkering was carried out at Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, located in Zhejiang in eastern China.

Customs coordination
Cao Wenqing, deputy head of the first logistics supervision department of Meishan Customs, said that customs authorities coordinated with the terminal, fuel supplier, shipping agents and other parties to conduct the operation. An intelligent customs supervision system was used to simplify the organization of on-site inspections.
ECNS notes that the shipping industry is accelerating its transition to low-carbon operations. The outlet also cites compatibility with existing vessels, solid safety performance and the potential to reduce carbon emissions as advantages of green methanol.
