The Russian State Duma has alleged that the extent of the fuel crisis is being concealed
On July 2, Nina Ostanina, chair of the Russian State Duma’s Committee on Family Protection, accused the Russian government of concealing the true scale of the fuel crisis, which, she said, arose after Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil refineries.
“Why won’t the deputy prime minister in charge honestly say that nearly a third of the refineries have been put out of commission, and why aren’t he or other relevant deputy prime ministers and ministers planning to implement emergency measures in response?” the lawmaker said.
Ostolina emphasized that sweeping these problems under the rug is particularly dangerous on the eve of the harvest. According to her, due to the fuel shortage, “the country could be left without bread,” which, given the international sanctions, would have serious consequences.
Earlier, farmers in southern regions of Russia reported a shortage of diesel fuel and a sharp rise in prices ahead of the harvest season. At the same time, food producers warned retail chains of possible delivery delays due to the fuel shortage.
According to the analytical company INFOLine, signs of shortages of essential goods, including meat, milk, and eggs, are also being observed in a number of Russian regions.
