About 80,000 people displaced in Yemen amid intensified fighting
In Yemen, more than 11,442 families, or approximately 80,000 people, were forced to leave their homes from September 3 to 9 due to intensified hostilities. The UN data were cited by The National. The UN noted that the actual number of displaced people may be higher, as access to people who have left is limited.
Fighting on the western coast
According to the publication, the Houthis captured the port of Mocha on Thursday, and the following day the entire western coast of the country came under their control. Mocha is located near the important Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
A source close to the peace talks told The National that the parties to the conflict are showing no willingness to turn to diplomacy amid the highest level of tensions in at least four years, particularly in western Yemen. According to the publication's interlocutor, calls to stop the fighting have caused irritation among both the Yemeni government and the Houthis.

Hospitals prepare for the wounded
Médecins Sans Frontières reported that its hospital in Aden is preparing to receive a large number of wounded people from the front line. Medical workers are also facing difficulties referring patients from Mocha hospital, where about 30 healthcare workers continue to provide basic care amid an unstable situation.
The organization's teams also work at Al-Jumhuriya Hospital in Aden, which the publication calls Yemen's de facto capital. The needs are not limited to assistance for the wounded: medical workers provide obstetric and pediatric care, as well as treat cholera and other diseases. According to Médecins Sans Frontières, since the start of the hostilities its teams have received more than 30 wounded people from the Bab el-Mandeb area, including those with burns, orthopedic injuries and soft-tissue injuries. The wounded include civilians, military personnel and representatives of Yemen's government forces.
According to UN data from March, more than 22 million people in Yemen need humanitarian assistance, 5.2 million are internally displaced persons, and 18.3 million face acute food shortages.
