The EU wants Zelenskyy to explain the reasons for Fedorov's resignation
The European Union was surprised by the decision to dismiss Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. Officials in Brussels plan to seek an explanation from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the reasons for this personnel change.
According to Kubilius, Fedorov’s replacement came as a “big surprise” to him personally.
As for the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, the European Commissioner views this move with understanding.
“Indeed, changes in the government are sometimes necessary. And we have heard from our interlocutors here in Kyiv that the new prime minister is well-suited for this position,” Kubilius said.
Nevertheless, he noted that he is most interested in who will be responsible for defense in Ukraine and what will happen to the defense minister.
The fact is that the European Commissioner has a long-standing and fruitful working relationship with Fedorov—one that predates even his appointment as head of the Ministry of Defense.
“We’ve really managed to achieve a lot during this period. This includes nearly daily diplomatic strikes in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Omsk, Crimea, and elsewhere,” Kubilius explained.
He also emphasized that the EU wants to hear from Volodymyr Zelenskyy why he made this decision regarding Fedorov.
“It is very important for us to continue what we have started—especially regarding funding for Ukraine. 60 billion is a huge sum. We worked well together with Mykhailo Fedorov and Serhiy Boev,” the European Commissioner explained.
This statement was made by European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius, according to “European Truth.”
Zelenskyy acknowledged that Fedorov lost his position due to a conflict with Syrskyi.
Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak revealed the likely composition of the new Cabinet of Ministers, which may be headed by Serhiy Koretskyi. At the same time, a final decision on some of the candidates has not yet been made, particularly regarding Fedorov.
Zelenskyy had also previously stated that he had not yet made a decision regarding Fedorov’s future in the government.
