In the Finnish city of Kuopio, the largest civil defense drills since World War II are taking place, with more than 2,000 people participating, including volunteers and students.
According to the scenario, participants are practicing responses to disruptions in electricity and water supply caused by cyberattacks, as well as the threat of missile strikes from Russia. The main goal of the exercises is to prepare local authorities and the civilian population to take action during a potential attack and critical emergencies.
The organizers emphasize that the country’s defense capability relies not only on the armed forces but also on the “mindset” of citizens who are ready to take responsibility for their own safety. In light of the growing number of cyberattacks and reported drone sightings near energy facilities, experts are urging the public to be prepared to meet their own needs independently for at least 72 hours in the event of a power outage or disruption to the drinking water supply.
