Finland’s Yle releases quiz featuring 100 historic news stories

In Finland, broadcaster Yle has released a quiz with 100 questions about historic news events to mark its 100th anniversary. The materials were collected from the broadcaster’s archives, and the questions cover the period from the 1920s to the present day, YLE News reports.

Testing the quiz

The quiz was tested in advance by recently dismissed TV news presenter Marjukka Havumäki and current news presenter Pietu Heiskanen. At the start of the test, they answered questions dedicated to news from the 1920s and 1930s.

Havumäki saw an archival report featuring herself among the tasks and recalled that presenters used to sit at a desk. Heiskanen noted that they now have to work standing up.

Archival materials

The quiz includes materials from different decades of Yle’s existence. In particular, a former star journalist of the broadcaster appears in a video for the test, while one of the questions concerns what citizens’ hair was used for in Finland during wartime.

Heiskanen joked that the test had given him more confidence in his work as a presenter because he remembers events from different decades well. The Yle report notes that it is worth setting aside enough time and choosing a comfortable place to complete the quiz.
