A former police officer has been arrested in Florida for plotting a terrorist attack in New Orleans
U.S. law enforcement officials reported that they had thwarted a serious threat to public safety. On Tuesday night, Christopher Gillum of Chapel Hill was arrested at a hotel in Destin, Florida.
He was wanted in Louisiana on suspicion of planning terrorist acts. According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the man devised a plan for a potential terrorist attack at a festival in New Orleans.
ABC News reported this.
“Authorities received information that Gillum planned to travel to a festival in New Orleans to carry out a mass shooting and then commit ‘police-assisted suicide,’” the agency said in a statement.
During a search of the suspect’s room, authorities found a firearm and approximately 200 rounds of ammunition.

A former police officer who was planning a terrorist attack at a festival in New Orleans was detained in Florida.
The detainee’s background indicates that he is well-versed in law enforcement procedures. Gillum served as a police officer in Chapel Hill from 2004 to 2019, after which he resigned voluntarily. City spokesperson Alex Carrascillo confirmed that Gillum briefly returned to the department in 2024 as a civilian employee but left his job again at the end of last year.
Despite the seriousness of Gillum’s intentions, Louisiana police assure that there are currently no direct threats to festivals in the state. The suspect is currently in custody in Florida and awaiting extradition proceedings. A further investigation involving FBI agents is expected to determine whether he had accomplices and what exactly motivated him to plan a bloody attack on peaceful citizens.
