Casa Argentina director in Paris, Santiago Musio, resigns in France
In France, Santiago Musio, director of the Casa Argentina student residence in Paris, has resigned after several months of criticism over his management of the institution. This was reported by the Buenos Aires Times, citing a source at Argentina’s Ministry of Human Capital, which informed AFP of his resignation.
Criticism of residence management
Musio, a Franco-Argentine lawyer, took over Casa Argentina in 2024 after being appointed by the government of Argentine President Javier Milei. He was criticized over reports of possible student evictions, the removal of a memorial plaque honoring people who disappeared during Argentina’s dictatorship, and the holding of far-right political meetings at the residence.
Casa Argentina is one of nearly 50 residences at the International University City of Paris. Each year, the complex hosts around 12,000 students, researchers and artists from 150 nationalities.

French response
On July 30, Paris City Hall asked French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot to launch an investigation into the management of the residence. Last week, Barrot said that the French side was holding talks with Argentine authorities.
According to AFP, Casa Argentina residents reported constant fear and a lack of freedom of expression at the residence during the 2025–2026 academic year. Musio did not respond to AFP’s requests. A few days before resigning, he told the French conservative newspaper Journal du Dimanche that he sought to remove the influence of the far left and so-called woke ideology from the residence.
