Around 5,000 people affected by floods in Hohoe, Ghana — MyJoyOnline
Severe flooding occurred in Hohoe, Ghana, after the Dayi River overflowed its banks, affecting around 5,000 people. Volta Region Minister James Gunu said that authorities would provide support to those affected and mobilize humanitarian supplies for communities impacted by the disaster.
Flooded communities
The flooding affected several settlements along the river. One of the hardest-hit was the Zongo community: reports say that more than half of the community was flooded, forcing residents to leave their homes.
As MyJoyOnline reports, the government is working with the National Disaster Management Organisation and other relevant services to provide people with urgent assistance.

Impact assessment and assistance
According to Gunu, the Regional Coordinating Council has already sent a team to Hohoe, including the regional director of the National Disaster Management Organisation. The team is to join the municipal chief executive in assessing the situation and providing initial assistance.
The minister also said that the Minister for Roads and Highways was mobilizing humanitarian supplies. They were expected to arrive in Hohoe on Monday evening or Tuesday for distribution among people affected by the flooding. Gunu assured that the government would do everything possible to support those affected during this difficult period.
