Ghana plans annual international comedy event — MyJoyOnline
The Black Star Experience project has entered into a partnership with the Ghanaian-owned British company L’extase Limited to develop a major annual comedy event. The initiative is intended to promote Ghanaian and African comedy among international audiences, MyJoyOnline reports.
Partnership and project goal
The partnership was formalized during a signing ceremony at the Black Star Experience premises. Organizers expect comedy to become a platform for showcasing Ghanaian and African identity, while local comedians will gain more opportunities to perform before audiences beyond the continent.
Black Star Experience coordinator Rex Owusu Marfo, whom MyJoyOnline describes as a music veteran, said the project had been developed for several months. According to him, the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the international significance of Ghana’s creative industries, including beyond the music sector.
Marfo also stated that stand-up comedy has significant social and economic potential. He noted that the government intends to support the industry, including by providing the necessary infrastructure and conditions for its development.

Organizers’ plans
The proposed event is planned to coincide with Ghana’s Independence celebrations. It is expected to bring together comedians, audiences and industry representatives from Ghana, the diaspora and other countries.
The organizers said the project should give internationally recognized comedians an opportunity to perform in Ghana. At the same time, Ghanaian comedians will be able to present their work to audiences abroad.
Alex Adjei Sarpong, head of the Afro Admiral Incorporated team in Ghana and representative of L’extase Limited, confirmed the intention to develop the project as an annual event with international appeal. Details about participants and the program are promised to be announced later. According to the organizers’ concept, the event could also contribute to Ghana’s tourism and creative economy by attracting foreign visitors and increasing recognition of the country’s comedy scene.
