Death of Patience Akyianu reported in Ghana — MyJoyOnline
Ghana has reported the death of Patience Enyonam Akyianu, the former managing director of Barclays Bank Ghana and group CEO of Hollard Ghana Holdings. CEO Network Ghana announced this in a statement, MyJoyOnline reports. The outlet notes that the circumstances of her reported death have not been independently confirmed.
CEO Network Ghana described this as a painful loss for the business community and expressed condolences to Akyianu's family, colleagues, friends and loved ones. The organization added that it would provide further details after receiving information from the family.
Career in banking
According to her profile on the Ghana Stock Exchange, Akyianu had more than 26 years of experience in banking and finance. Before moving into insurance in 2018, she had worked in the banking industry for 17 years.

At Barclays Bank Ghana, Akyianu initially served as finance director and then was the bank's managing director for five years. She earned an MBA in Finance and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a specialization in accounting from the University of Ghana Business School. She was also a certified professional accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana.
Work at Hollard Ghana
In October 2018, Akyianu left Barclays Bank Ghana and headed the newly established Hollard Ghana Holdings. She became the first group CEO of the company, which brought together Hollard Insurance Ghana, formerly known as Metropolitan Insurance, and Hollard Life Assurance Ghana.
During her time at Hollard, the company developed new distribution channels, digital insurance solutions and customer experience. In 2021, Hollard, in partnership with the Ghana Enterprises Agency, launched the Asomdwee insurance product for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. In May 2025, Akyianu received the Millennium Excellence Award for achievements in finance and the capital market.
