30-year-old man abducted in Ghana, ransom demanded

In Assin Fosu, Ghana, 30-year-old Bismarck Amoah is being held by people suspected of kidnapping him. They threatened to kill the man if his family did not pay a ransom. As MyJoyOnline reports, citing the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Amoah was abducted on Sunday, September 6, 2026, and spent more than 48 hours in captivity.

Ransom demands

According to the GNA, the kidnappers initially demanded GH¢45,000 and gave the family 24 hours to pay. Relatives sought help from friends, loved ones and other people, raised GH¢19,500 and, according to the agency, transferred this amount to the people holding Amoah.

The family hoped the man would be released after the transfer. However, one of the kidnappers, GNA reports, demanded another GH¢30,500 so that the total amount would be GH¢50,000.

Recordings for the family

The kidnappers sent Amoah's relatives audio and video recordings via WhatsApp in which he asks them to urgently raise the money and save him. According to the GNA, the video shows the man naked and tied with ropes around his hands, legs and neck. He was also forced to lie in water poured onto the floor and was beaten with ropes.

GNA suggests that the kidnappers used Amoah's own mobile phone through WhatsApp to communicate with the family. In one of the recordings, a female voice claims that the man allegedly defrauded people involved in holding him.
