Ghana concerned about concealed motorcycle license plates
In Ghana, some motorcyclists bend, cover or otherwise conceal their license plates. This raises concerns about road safety, driver accountability and law enforcement. On busy roads in Accra and other cities, motorcycles are being seen with plates tilted upward, partially covered with material or installed in a way that makes the characters difficult to see.
Identification after violations and road accidents
As MyJoyOnline reports, concealed plates make it difficult for police and other road users to identify motorcycles involved in traffic violations, accidents or suspected criminal activity.
A license plate is an important link between a vehicle and its registered owner. It can help during investigations and in establishing accountability.

Transition to technology-based enforcement
The importance of visible license plates is growing as Ghana moves from traditional roadside checks to technology-supported traffic enforcement. Cameras and electronic devices are increasingly being used to detect violations.
The Ghana News Agency called on police and relevant regulatory bodies to strictly enforce the requirement for proper placement of license plates on motorcycles. Plates must be installed vertically and remain clearly visible.
