Mother and son detained in Ghana on suspicion of drug possession
In Dormaa-Ahenkro in Ghana's Bono Region, law enforcement officers detained 66-year-old Mary Awuni and her 29-year-old son Maxwell Akukah on suspicion of possessing narcotic substances and controlled drugs. This was reported by MyJoyOnline, citing the Bono Regional Police Command.

The arrests took place during an intelligence-led operation on Kumi-Da Street in a suburb of the Dormaa Central Municipality. During a search of the rooms, police seized 147 yellow compressed bricks wrapped in adhesive tape. Law enforcement officers suspect they contained Indian hemp.
Police also said they found 270 boxes and 329 blister packs of various tramadol products, 14 blister packs of Rohypnol, 87,751 Ghanaian cedis and 2,000 CFA francs.

Explanations from the detainees
According to police information, 14 blister packs of Rohypnol, 72,612 Ghanaian cedis and 2,000 CFA francs were found in a metal chest in Mary Awuni's room. During questioning, the woman stated that a man in Accra had given her these items and money to deliver to another person in Côte d'Ivoire. At the same time, police said Awuni admitted that the items found in her room belonged to her.
Maxwell Akukah was detained in another room, where law enforcement officers said they found suspected cannabis, tramadol and 15,139 Ghanaian cedis. He told investigators that the items allegedly belonged to his brother Anthony, who was outside Dormaa-Ahenkro during the operation.
The investigation continues
Both detainees remain in police custody and are assisting the investigation. Bono Region police said they are establishing the circumstances and continuing the investigation to hold accountable those whose guilt is established.
