Three people charged in connection with anti-immigration protest in Gosport — The Guardian

Three people have been charged in connection with an anti-immigration protest that drew hundreds of demonstrators to Gosport Marina in Hampshire on Tuesday evening. This was reported by The Guardian.

Six people detained

Police detained six people after anti-migration activists gathered in Gosport. They mistakenly believed that a small boat was due to arrive in the town and attempted to prevent the possible arrival of asylum seekers.

Charges and court dates

Shannon Dodds, 32, of Leonard Road in Gosport, has been charged with two counts of assault by beating an emergency worker. Sally Pearson, 31, of Forton Road in Gosport, is charged with assault by beating an emergency worker, as well as a racially aggravated public order offence.

Toby Matthews, 33, of Forton Road, has been charged with common assault on an emergency worker. Dodds and Pearson were remanded in custody until a hearing at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court scheduled for Thursday, September 24. Matthews was released on bail and is due to appear before the same court on November 9.
