In Jurmala, Mikhail Zadornov's house was demolished and a mansion was built
In Jurmala, Latvia, the house belonging to Russian satirist Mikhail Zadornov—which he had purchased back in 1990—has been demolished. A modern two-story cottage, with an estimated value of about €3 million, now stands on the site of his former home.
The house was situated on a plot of land measuring nearly 2,800 square meters.
It had ten rooms, including three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a fireplace, which, according to Zadornov himself, created a special atmosphere of coziness. It was in this house that the satirist repeatedly hosted journalists and guests from the world of show business.
After Mikhail Zadornov’s death in 2017, the property was inherited by his first wife, Velta Zadornova. Since she lived in Moscow, it was difficult for her to maintain the estate. In April 2020, the house was first put up for rent and later sold to new owners.
After the purchase, the owners approached the Jurmala City Council with a request to allow the demolition of the building. Since the plot is located within an urban planning monument of national significance, the demolition project had to be approved by the Latvian National Heritage Board. After obtaining all the necessary permits, the old house was demolished.
In its place, a new modern mansion was built, estimated to cost approximately €3 million.
Mikhail Zadornov was born in Jurmala and died on November 10, 2017, after a long illness. During the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, he publicly supported the Kremlin’s policies and repeatedly made anti-Ukrainian statements.
