Armed attackers abduct six imams in Nigeria’s Zamfara state — police
In Nigeria’s Zamfara state, armed attackers abducted six imams who were traveling to Talata-Mafara. Premium Times Nigeria reported this, citing the police.
Attack on a road in Bakura
According to Zamfara State Police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar, the attackers intercepted a vehicle on the local Dacco–Damri road in Bakura Local Government Area at around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The head of the police unit in Bakura arrived at the scene together with law enforcement officers. The police and other security agencies searched for the abducted people. The names of the victims were not disclosed.

What the military said
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Army’s 8th Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, confirmed the abduction. At the same time, he noted that the military could not at that point confirm whether those abducted were religious figures. According to him, the people had not been rescued at the time he spoke with journalists.
Earlier, Sahara Reporters reported that five clerics were abducted after prayers for the re-election of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu at the residence of Senator Abdulaziz Yari in Talata-Mafara. Osoba denied that the abduction took place at Yari’s residence and said that the abducted people were reportedly heading to the senator.
As the outlet notes, kidnappings for ransom are common in Zamfara state, where armed groups that locals call bandits operate.
