Kashmiri spiritual leader meets Iranian president in India
Kashmiri spiritual leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in New Delhi, India, together with a delegation. According to Farooq, at the meeting he emphasized the need for Muslim unity amid rising Islamophobia and the suffering of people in Iran, Palestine, Lebanon, and elsewhere.

Pezeshkian arrived in the Indian capital together with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to attend the BRICS leaders' summit. Iranian Ambassador to India Mohammad Fathali also took part in the meeting.
Farooq was accompanied by Kashmiri Shia leaders Aga Syed Hassan Mousavi and Imran Reza Ansari, Anadolu Agency reports. He said that political conflicts and sectarian differences should not divide the Muslim community.

Statements by the delegation
According to Farooq's statement, the delegation expressed solidarity with the people of Iran at a difficult time for them and called for an end to the “aggression” against the country amid the war with the United States. Farooq also said that confrontation does not solve problems and that the way forward lies in dialogue, diplomacy, and engagement.
During the meeting, Farooq mentioned Kashmir's centuries-old cultural and historical ties with Iran. He presented Pezeshkian with a specially crafted walnut-wood model of the historic Jamia Masjid, or Grand Mosque, in Srinagar.
