In Canada, an airline pilot flew with a fake license for 17 years
An Air Canada pilot was arrested and released after law enforcement suspected him of using a fake pilot’s license, with which he allegedly flew commercial flights for 17 years.
The pilot in question is 59-year-old Jeffrey Wall, who, according to the investigation, had been flying planes since 2009 using a forged document—a commercial pilot’s license—which authorizes him to serve as captain of a commercial aircraft.
The violation was discovered by chance during a document check at Toronto Pearson International Airport. It was then that inspectors noticed discrepancies in the documents, raising suspicions about their authenticity.
The investigation was given the internal code name “Project Icarus.”
The Peel Regional Police compared the case to a movie plot, noting that the situation is akin to a person with basic medical training suddenly performing complex surgical procedures.
“Licensing requirements exist for a reason. They exist to ensure people’s safety,” said Deputy Police Chief Nick Milinovich.
At the same time, Air Canada emphasized that the pilot regularly underwent mandatory proficiency checks, specifically every six months, as well as annual inspection assessments by Transport Canada. The company emphasized that the incident did not pose an immediate threat to flight safety, but acknowledged the critical importance of aviation licensing.
After the revelation, Wall was suspended from work and later fired. He was charged with fraud, misleading government authorities, and other offenses.
After his arrest, the pilot was released on his own recognizance, but he is scheduled to appear in court later this month.

As a reminder, pilots from Germany’s largest airlines, including Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Eurowings, have launched another wave of protests.

Qatar Airways has sharply increased the number of flights and, for the first time since the start of the conflict, operated 200 flights from Doha in a single day.
