Karachi plans to open a one-stop public services center — Dawn

Karachi, Pakistan, plans to establish a one-stop public services center where citizens will be able to obtain passports, CNIC national identity cards, weapons licenses, various permits and access other services. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced this on September 29 during a visit to the Interior Ministry office on I. I. Chundrigar Road.

Services at one center

As Dawn reports, Naqvi described the future facility as Pakistan’s largest public services center. It is planned to house counters of all departments and organizations under the responsibility of the Interior Ministry.

The minister instructed officials to prepare and submit a master plan for the center within 10 days, taking into account all necessary requirements. He also ordered that the required measures be ensured for the establishment of the center.

New equipment for rescuers

During a separate visit to Karachi Port, Naqvi inspected 21 new vehicles for Rescue 1122 and the Islamabad Fire Service that had arrived from China. The Interior Ministry stated that the equipment would be delivered from Karachi to Islamabad within five days.

According to the ministry, the new vehicles will be on round-the-clock duty at six stations in Islamabad and will be able to conduct operations at heights of up to 256 feet. The new fleet includes four fire vehicles for high-rise operations, six fire towers and five fire tankers. Naqvi called this the largest expansion of Islamabad’s rescue service since 2009 and thanked the Chinese government for accelerating the delivery of the equipment.
