Sculptures honoring DPRK soldiers to be installed in Hanoi — Korea Herald
In Hanoi, Vietnam, sculptures are planned to be installed in honor of North Korean military personnel who fought in the Vietnam War. A ceremony to unveil a commemorative plaque at the site of the future memorial was held on Friday at the Vietnam Military History Museum, Korea Herald reported, citing the Korean Central News Agency.
Plaque on Vietnam-DPRK friendship
The plaque bears an inscription about friendship between Vietnam and the DPRK. The text states that diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in January 1950 and that North Korea provided Vietnam with material and moral assistance during its war against the United States.
By estimates, the DPRK sent around 400 military personnel to Vietnam. They included 90 pilots who were there from 1966 to 1969. In an accompanying text about the plaque distributed by KCNA, the service of the Korean military personnel was described as a contribution to strengthening friendly relations between the two countries.

Visit by the DPRK delegation
The ceremony was attended by DPRK Deputy Defense Minister Ryo Chol-un, his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Truong Thang, DPRK Ambassador to Vietnam Ri Song Guk, embassy staff and representatives of Vietnam's defense ministry.
The North Korean delegation also visited a memorial in the city of Bac Ninh, north of Hanoi, dedicated to fallen servicemen of the Korean People's Army, and laid a wreath there. The delegation led by Ryo has been in Vietnam since September 22.
Recently, Hanoi and Pyongyang have stepped up bilateral contacts. Earlier this month, DPRK leader Kim Jong Un sent a letter to Vietnamese President To Lam, declaring his intention to strengthen ties. In October last year, To Lam became the first president of Vietnam in 18 years to visit the DPRK. In May, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung visited North Korea, and the following month security officials from the two countries held talks in Pyongyang.
