Restoration of the Tomb of Jesse and Ruth completed in Hebron
The Jewish community of Hebron in Israel has completed a four-year restoration of the Tomb of Jesse and Ruth on Tel Hebron hill in the West Bank. The work was completed on September 15. According to the Jerusalem Post, the project was led by the community’s international spokesperson, Yishai Fleisher, a member of the Jewish Power party of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
Synagogue and study hall
As part of the project, the tomb was restored, and a new synagogue and study hall were set up on its grounds. Local Hebron stone, wrought iron and wood were used predominantly for the work.
The graves of Jesse and Ruth were renewed using stone, calligraphic inscriptions, a Star of David and a wheat ornament referring to the biblical story of Ruth. The design was developed together with historians and craftspeople. It uses turquoise, which, according to Fleisher, is associated with Safed, instead of the brown and green shades traditionally used at this site.
The project cost about $1 million. According to the publication, Fleisher raised these funds from donors in different countries.

Restored historic chamber
A chamber dating to the Byzantine and medieval periods was also restored. It was turned into a working workshop where a scribe writes on parchment in the traditional manner in front of visitors.
The renovated site includes shaded seating areas, drinking fountains, restrooms, a small event hall, a courtyard and parking. The complex also has direct access to the Tel Hebron archaeological park.
Jewish sources consider this tomb to be the burial site of Jesse, the father of the biblical King David, and Ruth the Moabite, his great-grandmother.
