Classes and ferry services suspended in China’s Fujian due to Typhoon Saudel
In eastern China’s Fujian province, in-person classes at schools and 24 passenger ferry routes along the coast have been suspended due to Typhoon Saudel. As Channel NewsAsia reports, forecasters warned of heavy rainfall associated with the typhoon.
Third landfall
According to local authorities, Saudel made landfall in China for the third time on the morning of September 3, on the coast of Fujian. Before that, the typhoon reached the coast of neighboring Zhejiang province twice.
In-person classes were suspended in the cities of Fuzhou and Quanzhou. In Fuzhou, some tourist sites, including theme parks, were also temporarily closed, local media reported.

Warnings of downpours and landslides
Fujian’s emergency management department warned of downpours and the risk of secondary disasters, including flash floods and landslides. The department said the province is experiencing a period of prolonged heavy rainfall.
According to Xinhua, about 247,700 people were evacuated from high-risk areas in Fujian last week after warnings of heavy rain. In July, Typhoon Maysak caused destructive flooding in the southern Guangxi region, where at least 159 people died, the source reports.
